Zim military backs Mugabe

ZIMBABWE - Zimbabwe's military on Tuesday made its clearest statement yet by showing its support for President Robert Mugabe.

A senior official said the army would not allow anyone into office who does not respect the revolution.

Mugabe wants to hold elections later in 2012.

But the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) said it is worried there will be a rerun of the violence seen during the 2008 polls.

There is little doubt these words are aimed at Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and MDC supporters.

Zimbabwe National Army chief of staff Trust Mugoba set out the military's creed like a mathematical equation.

He told mourners at a funeral that the army's ideology is represented by Zanu-PF.

Mugoba said the army must defend that ideology if it is to protect the nation.
